Legacy vs. Modern Workflows Comparison Charts

THE BRIEF

One of the most common barriers to digital transformation is that people lack a clear picture of what the change will look like in practice. This job aid was created to close that gap by placing legacy and modern workflows side by side, making the contrast between old and new ways of working immediately visible. The audience was the broader workforce, and the objective was to help people recognize the characteristics, behaviors, and impacts of each approach so they could begin to identify where their own workflows fell on the spectrum.

THE PROCESS

The comparison charts were designed in PowerPoint using a structured three-column format: Characteristics, What It Looks Like, and Impact. This structure was intentional, moving the reader from concept to context to consequence in a single row. Two charts were created, one for legacy workflows and one for modern workflows, each covering seven key dimensions including tool usage, ownership, visibility, and process standardization. The parallel structure of the two charts made it easy for readers to compare directly across rows, reinforcing the contrast without requiring additional explanation.

THE OUTCOME

Learners walked away with a clear, visual understanding of what legacy and modern workflows look like in practice and why the difference matters. The job aid was designed to be used independently or alongside other learning resources, making it a flexible tool for reinforcing digital transformation concepts in a variety of contexts. By grounding abstract ideas in concrete characteristics and real-world impacts, the charts made the case for change without requiring a lengthy explanation.

SKILLS DEMONSTRATED

This project demonstrates the ability to translate complex organizational change concepts into a clean, scannable reference document. The three-column structure reflects strong information architecture and an understanding of how people process comparative information. Designing in PowerPoint highlights the ability to produce professional learning materials using tools already available within most organizations, without relying on specialized design software.
